About

I love language. I love its history, its complexity, its flexibility (even within the bounds of grammar and usage). I love thinking and writing and reading about language, but that does not summarize my life’s devotion—if it did, this dictionary would be much wealthier. I began this dictionary in late high school, when it was more of a snarky blog than anything even half-respectable. In the late 2010s, I reduced the attitude, improved the advice, and published it on my personal website, but it remained little more than the product of quiet, occasional effort. Only in the early 2020s did I work more earnestly to improve upon it each month, and by late 2024 I decided the dictionary was large enough to warrant its own website. But work isn’t done. Barring life’s bountiful surprises, it will continue to grow.
